dc.description O artigo é uma reflexão sobre as relações entre o tempo de escola e a qualidade do trabalho educativo que se realiza dentro dela. O turno integral, com notável expansão nos sistemas públicos educacionais brasileiros, é analisado do ponto de vista dos estudos sobre a eficácia escolar e as condições culturais e históricas que o determinam. Abordam-se, ainda, as diferentes concepções que dão suporte às propostas pedagógicas e administrativas de tempo integral e que se traduzem em diferentes soluções institucionais.<br>The present study is a reflection on the relationship between school hours and the quality of the educational work delivered at school. Full-time school, which is increasingly adopted by the Brazilian public school system, is analyzed from the stand point of the studies on school effectiveness and the cultural and historical conditions that define it. The different concepts supporting the full-time pedagogical and administrative propositions, which are translated into different institutional solutions, are also approached.
