Integrating Cooperative Learning Activities to Instruction at Tertiary Education Level: A Qualitative Portrayal of the Experience

dc.description This paper is a qualitative portrayal of personal experience of the author in which he engaged tertiary education students in cooperative learning activities in the classroom. It is based on his observational notes taken during instructional process, involvement of learners in cooperative learning activities, and their reflection on these activities. The experience focused on assessing the effectiveness of cooperative learning activities. It is described that the researcher taught a course on “learning technologies” for two years to two different Master’s classes consecutively. The researcher designed and offered activities to learners for their active learning. According to the experience cooperative learning appeared to be highly constructive to students’ learning. The Students were seemed to be learning to assuming the responsibility for their learning in groups, whereas the instructor became familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of their students through observation. The instructor and students reported cooperative learning activities to be useful in enhancing their learning, developing problem-solving approach, critical thinking and communication skills along with motivation. It appeared to be empowering students with the power of critical thinking and reflective practice.
