dc.description Este texto resulta de parte da discussão da dissertação de mestrado desenvolvida no programa de pós-graduação em Educação na área Metodologia de Ensino da Universidade Federal de São Carlos. O trabalho buscou identificar as práticas que duas professoras de 4&ordf; série do ensino fundamental construíram para promover o ensino de conteúdos geográficos, históricos e ambientais por meio do uso de mapas municipais do Atlas de Limeira. Os resultados apontam que são as concepções e os modelos didáticos construídos pelas professoras os geradores das formas de conhecimento construídas em aula. O uso de mapas no ensino possibilita duas formas de construção de conhecimentos: a primeira concebe o ensino como transmissão de conhecimentos, a segunda concebe o ensino como construção coletiva. Verificamos com os sujeitos desta investigação que o atlas gera no contexto escolar processos de ensino e aprendizagem motivadores no sentido de tratar de problemáticas locais vivenciadas tanto pelas professoras como pelos alunos.<br>This text is an adaptation of part of the discussion of a master's degree thesis developed in the area of teaching methodology for the Post-graduation Program in Education of the Federal University in São Carlos. The work sought to identify the practices that two 4th grade female teachers built to promote the teaching of geographical, historical and environmental contents using municipal maps from the Atlas of Limeira. The results point out that the didactic conceptions and models constructed by these teachers generated the forms of knowledge built in the classroom. The use of maps in teaching allows two forms of knowledge building: one considers teaching as a knowledge transmission, whereas the other sees teaching as a collective construction. The subjects of this investigation helped us verify that, in a schooling context, the atlas generated motivating teaching and learning processes because they deal with local problems experienced by both the teachers and their students.
