LA BATALLA DEL ATLÁNTICO Y LA OPERACIÓN NEULAND (TIERRA NUEVA) EN LA OPINIÓN PÚBLICA COLOMBO-VENEZOLANA (1942)

dc.description	The Operation Neuland (Tierra Nueva) was the naval action falls within the Battle of the Atlantic. This battle was considered the most extensive and dangerous over the Second World War (1939-1945). It consisted of maritime interdiction operations conducted by German and Italian submarines in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea against American, British, Dutch, Brazilians and Venezuelans, merchant ships, among others. Through examination of journalistic information, the author's purpose is to analyze the perception of this historic event for the Colombian-Venezuelan public opinion, mainly newspapers. To do this, basically two newspapers were consulted: El Tiempo de Bogotá and La Esfera de Caracas. In the case of El Tiempo de Bogotá, it was accessed the website of this newspaper, in which are scanned hemerographic files from 1911 to the present date. For La Esfera, it was consulted the microfilm room of the National Library, and the additional information was provided by the available literature on the subject.<br /> <br /> <br>La Operación Neuland (Tierra Nueva) fue la acción naval comprendida dentro de la Batalla del Atlántico. Esta batalla fue considerada como la más extensa y peligrosa durante la segunda guerra mundial (1939-1945). Consistió en operaciones de interdicción marítima llevadas a cabo por submarinos alemanes e italianos en aguas del Océano Atlántico y el Mar Caribe contra buques mercantes estadounidenses, ingleses, holandeses, brasileños y venezolanos, entre otros. A través del examen de información hemerográfica, el propósito del autor es analizar la percepción de este acontecimiento histórico por la opinión pública colombo-venezolana, principalmente la prensa escrita. Para ello, se consultaron básicamente dos diarios: El Tiempo de Bogotá y La Esfera de Caracas. En el caso de El Tiempo de Bogotá, se accedió a la página electrónica de dicho periódico, en la cual se encuentran archivos hemerográficos digitalizados desde 1911 hasta la presente fecha. Para el diario La Esfera, se consultó la sala de Micro-Film de la Hemeroteca Nacional, y la información adicional fue suministrada por la bibliografía disponible sobre el tema.
