Teachers Qualifications: Comparison between Primary School Curriculum Expectations and Teachers’ Acquisitions in Education Faculties

dc.description The aim of this study is to determine whether the qualifications required from teachers by primary school programs is in keeping with general teaching competences provided to pre-service teachers by education faculties. For this purpose, firstly, required qualifications and abilities were determined by a document analysis. Then, in the study, it was searched whether the required qualifications were provided at education faculties using semi-structured interviews and investigation of the books prepared for fieldwork study, general culture and teaching profession lessons at these faculties. A descriptive research methodology was used to conduct the study. Data collected in 2006-2007 academic year from semi-structured interviews with student-teachers at Fatih Education Faculty of Karadeniz Technical University and from textbooks recommended to these students. In conclusion, it can be stated that qualities and competencies required from teachers and those student-teachers provided with is in concordance.
