dc.description The purpose of the article is to explore the prospects of the CIS countries in the world commodity markets and the competitive output of national producers. The paper contains a critical analysis of the methods for identifying competitive export goods used in implementing the policy of the CIS to increase the competitiveness of national products. In contrast to the application-based method used by the CIS Executive Committee for the preparation of the Consolidated List of Competitive Products, the analytical one has been applied. A study of international trade statistics by dint of the integrated approach, based on the B.Balassa and G.Lafay's tools elaborated for revealing the international specialization, identified competitive products for each of the 11 CIS countries. The scientific novelty of the research consists in using the Boston matrix for the study of "export portfolio" of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. As a result, it has been found that the most effective static positions in the world markets are fertilizers (Russia, Belarus), dairy products (Belarus), mineral fuels (Russia). The study of dynamic positions of the CIS countries exports in the world markets found that, along with raw materials, the favorable conditions have been formed for the output of the high-tech industries such as chemical and pharmaceutical industries, manufacturing tools and machines, electrical equipment. Results of the study are intended for use in the foreign trade of the CIS countries and for development of trade policy, as well as for elaboration of agreed integration measures to overcome the raw materials orientation of the CIS economies.
