dc.description In distance education the problem of cognitive-visual means of educational content is actualized. The definition of «cognitive-visual tools» is proposed. The cognitive-visual tools are all the means of education and training, presented in graphic form, which is due to the nature of the specific features of distance education. Attention is drawn to the breadth of meaning of the term «iconic» principled irreducibility it only to the artistic sphere.
