dc.description Desde meados da década de noventa do século passado verifica-se uma expansão da oferta da Educação a Distância no ensino superior brasileiro. Esta expansão responde, de um lado, a demandas do mundo do trabalho dirigidas à formação de profissionais capazes de garantir a competitividade de organizações no cenário de globalização da economia e, de outro, a políticas educacionais que visam ampliar a oferta de vagas no ensino de graduação. Nos discursos que defendem a EAD no ensino superior tem sido destacada a relação desta modalidade educativa com a possibilidade de inclusão educacional e formação de professores. Tal visão exige estudos abrangentes, a começar pelo conhecimento de sua trajetória neste nível de ensino. É nesta exigência que se ancora o presente trabalho: trata-se de esforço que buscou resgatar experiências de EAD no ensino superior brasileiro e que, ao ser concretizado, permitiu a visualização de dois momentos distintos: as experiências pioneiras e o sistema de redes. Para concretizá-lo, foram tomados como referência autores que abordam a expansão da EAD no Brasil e sites de universidades. Não houve a pretensão de esgotar as experiências, até por que foram privilegiadas as realizadas em universidades. Espera-se que este trabalho contribua para o entendimento e questionamento de implicações desta expansão.Since the early days of the nineties, in the last century, it is possible to identify an expansion in distance education in Brazilian Universities. This expansion answers, from one side, to the demands of the working world, directed to the formation of professionals capable of guaranteeing the competitiveness of organizations, taking into consideration the scenario of the economic globalization. From another side, it is an answer to the educational political beliefs that aim to extend the offer of places in Universities. In the speeches that defend the distance education in higher education, it has been called the attention to the relation between this form of education and the possibility of educational inclusion and teacher training. Such vision demands comprehensive studies, starting from the teachers’ knowledge of their trajectory in this level of education. The present research anchors in such requirement, meaning an effort that sought to rescue the experiences of distance education in higher education in Brazil, allowing the viewing of two distinct moments: the pioneering experiences and the networking system. To materialize it, it had been taken as reference authors who approach the expansion of distance education in Brazil and sites of universities. This proposal did not have the intent to deplete the experiences; in fact, only the ones taken in universities had been privileged. It is expected that this piece of work contributes for the understanding and questioning of the implications of this expansion.
