dc.description Literacy, as well as being a habit at personal level, is a matter of culture at societal level and also a phenomenon that has taken up more complex functions in our time as compared to the past. Literacy habits and efforts are all about extending and enhancing information gathering habits. It has gained a complicated position with the new literacy types emerging in the changing world. In this study, the Turkish literacy culture in comparison with other world countries has been discussed. The environmental factors supporting literacy culture, such as the existence of public libraries and reading resources, the place and importance of literacy in Turkish and other world countries and other factors like media and technology have been examined in detail.
