dc.description Se analiza de forma crítica la utilización del libro Medically Speaking, para el logro del desarrollo de las 4 habilidades básicas del idioma inglés en los alumnos de 5to año de la especialidad de medicina. Se hacen recomendaciones sobre la metodología general y sobre las estrategias que resultan más efectivas en el desarrollo de estas habilidades y hábitos lingüísticos fundamentales en esta especialidad. Se hace énfasis particular, además, en el empleo de una amplia variedad de situaciones reales que motivan al estudiante a comunicar sus ideas sobre temas que están muy relacionados con su futuro desempeño profesional.<br>It is critically analized the utilization of the book Medically Speaking to achieve the development of the 4 basic skills of the English language among 5th-year medical students. Recommendations on the general methodology and on the most effective strategies for developing these important linguistic skills and habits within this speciality are made. Particular enphasis is made on the use of a wide variety of real situations that motivate the students to communicate their ideas on topics that are closely related to their future professional work.
