dc.description

ABSTRACT: In the Modern Age the education of women emerged as a concern, became a topic of debate and inspired educational projects. Those who defended and worked for education pursued the same aim: to improve the training of girls and young women so that, when they attained adulthood, they could contribute to the task of moralizing society and ensure the proper fulfilment of the social functions assigned to them. The present article describes, from a comprehensive point of view, the situation of female education and its evolution between the 16th and the 18th centuries. The author has considered three essential elements: the theoretical ideas that underpin education, the teaching institutions in which education develops and the fields of knowledge included in the curriculum.
