dc.description <DIV align=justify>Este artigo trata da evolução dos trabalhos do Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas em Ensino e Diversidade – LEPED, da Faculdade de Educação/ UNICAMP, nas áreas de pesquisa e extensão, desde a sua fundação, em 1996. Cobre também o espaço de tempo que antecedeu à formação desse grupo de pesquisa, apresentando os estudos sobre o desenvolvimento cognitivo de alunos com déficits mentais e os projetos que derivaram dessas investigações. Ao narrarmos o desenvolvimento desse Laboratório, traçamos a sua trajetória, que parte do interesse pela educação especial de pessoas com deficiência mental e caminha na direção de uma escola aberta à diversidade, fundamentada nos princípios da inclusão. <p><DIV align=justify>This article deals with the evolution to the works to the Laboratory to Studies and Research in Education and Diversity - LEPED, to the Faculty of Education /UNICAMP, in the extension and seek areas, since its foundation, in 1996. It has also covered the space of time that it preceded to the formation of this group of research, presenting the studies on the cognitivo development of mental pupils with déficits and the designs that had derived from these inquiries. When telling the development of this Laboratory, we trace its path, that has left of the interest for the special education of people with mental deficiency and walks in the route of an open school to the diversity, based in the principles of the inclusion.
