dc.description In this research, it has been aimed to define Turkish Language and Literature teachers’ opinions about measurement and evaluation, questioning strategies and application of written examinations. For that purpose, 38 Turkish Language and Literature teachers teaching to the 9th grades in Kırşehir in 2006-07 academic year have been chosen randomly and the study has been performed on them using the descriptive research. In the study, a two-dimensional questionnaire improved by the researcher has been used as the measurement tool and in the conclusion of reliability and validtyworks; Cronbach Alpha’s internal reliability coefficient of the questionnaire including 50 questions has been calculated as 0.76. Findings part has been formed using the values of frequency (f),percentage (%), arithmetic mean ( X ) and standard deviation (sd). Also quintet evaluation scale has been used to comment on the teachers’ answers to the questionnaire. According to the findings of the research, teachers have mostly preferred the written examinations as the measurement tool in Language and Expression course. The easiness in the preparation, evaluation and application of written examinations has been considered as the reason of this preferance. Also, it has been found that while preparing the examinations, the teachers do not prefer asking questions which make the students write compositions; they prefer writing questions that distinguish the students who are succeeding or not. They choose the questions in easy, medium and difficult levels suitable for different students in the class.
