In this study, Gazi University Health Services School of Higher Vocational Education students’ training needs and perceptions and preferences of GMOs were determined. This study was carried out with 111 first and second-year students of Medical Laboratory Techniques and Environmental Health Programs. The study used survey method to analyze the training needs on GMOs and some demographic characteristics of the students. According to the findings, it was revealed that most of the students did not attend any activity relevant to this subject outside the lessons, and approximately one-third of them previously received a course on this subject, and 64 % of them thought that they had enough knowledge about GMOs, and more than 80 % of them were willing to receive training on this subject. In addition to these findings, it was concluded that approximately 86% of students believed that they would use this knowledge during their career, more than half of them wanted to learn in particular the benefits and harms of GMOs, and preferred to receive training through group activities and seminars. |
