dc.description This study examines different expressions of multiculturalism that are present in various sectors of society, including the schools. We point to power relations that exist in a multicultural space, the school environment in particular, and focus on the use of scientific research that supports discriminatory ideologies based on prejudice. Using the indigenous context as an example, we question the valorization of one type of rationality and mathematical knowledge in detriment to others, and illustrate the importance of conducting scientific research that reveals and values different ways of thinking and mathematizing. Finally, we emphasize the fact that the Afro-Brazilian struggle for recognition of the specificity and value of their knowledge, with African roots, has had weak impact thus far in mathematics education in Brazil.&#13; &#13; Key-words: Multiculturalism. Prejudice. Indigenous Ethnomathematics. Afro-Brazilians.<br>Esse trabalho aborda diferentes expressões de multiculturalismo que se fazem presentes em vários setores da sociedade, inclusive na escola. Aponta relações de poder que existem num espaço multicultural, em especial no ambiente escolar, e enfoca o uso de pesquisas científicas como suporte a ideologias discriminatórias que se baseiam em preconceitos. A partir de um exemplo no contexto indígena, é questionada a valorização de um tipo de racionalidade e conhecimento matemático em detrimento de outros e é ilustrada a importância de se realizarem pesquisas científicas que revelem e valorizem diferentes modos de pensar e matematizar. Finalmente ressalta-se o fato de que a luta dos afro-brasileiros pelo reconhecimento da especificidade e valor de seus conhecimentos, de matriz africana, tem ecoado ainda de forma incipiente na Educação Matemática brasileira.&#13; &#13; Palavras-chave: Multiculturalismo.
