Background. Integrated structures whose goal is to increase competitiveness and effectiveness of their members while preserving their independence are constantly becoming more popular. However the history of their development in Russia has not been analyzed yet. We introduce three stages of development of these structures in Russia: First stage (mid-1990-beginning 2000), when creation of these business unions was organized mostly by state. Second stage (beginning 2000-2007), when common business activity was represented by congresses, forums and conferences. Third stage (from 2008), when business cooperation is promoted by business itself. Private companies started offering special services in the field of organization of business associations. We analyzed main factors of business unions for each stage, as well as functions they perform and their image within business community. The history of Russian business clearly shows that similar processes of business organization took place in the end of XIXth century, but they were interrupted by the revolution of 1917. Now the process of formation of integrated business unions has a complex multi-level structure that include not only many industrial business unions and the Big 4, but also many hybrid structures like regional coalition of businessassociations, open business systems, communities of practice etc. |
