Using Current Events in Elementary Social Studies Courses and the Views of Students

dc.description Education and teaching should be linked with the current events. The application of newly learned knowledge into real life occurs in this way. In this study, it has been tried to be determined the views of 4th-7th grade students in primary education about process currentevents in social studies lessons, and some current events. In this study the views of students has been determined with conversation form as qualitative research. Obtained data has been evaluated with content analysis method. The population of research consistof 48 primary education students schooling in Ankara. As a conclusion of study, important topics and persons that considering by primary education students has been determined and it is tried to be detect possible problems which may occur in future years based on students views. Furthermore, the effective utility of students from current events in social studies lessons and the case of social studies teacher’s use of currents events and related materials in lessons has been examined. The importance of this study comes fromthe fact that it will direct future quantitative research into the use of current events in inservice education.
