The Effects of Teaching and Using of Learning Strategies on Achievement, Retention and Attitude of the Students

dc.description The aim of this study is to find out the effects of teaching and using of learning strategies on achievement, retention and attitude of the students in Social Science courses. This research was designed according to one group pretest-posttest modeling. The study was conducted with 24 students who are fifth grades at public elementary school. The data was collected with “Learning Strategies Questionnaire”, “Social Studies Achievement Test” and “Social Studies Attitude Scale”. Learning Strategies were taught to the students by means of direct teaching method and this strategies were used on the teaching of unit. Students’ learning strategies were demonstrated with frequency and percent statistics. Data which collected with“Social Studies Achievement Test” and “Social Studies Attitude Scale” analyzed with paired samples t test. Findings indicated that teaching and using of learning strategies increased achievement, and effected positivly attitude of the students in Social Sciences courses.
