My article explores the various novel prospects for modern society and itsactors, for example the social order of industrial society and the knowledgeused to comprehend it. The foundations of the emerging social world are bestdescribed as based on knowledge, though it is sometimes argued that know-ledge has been the foundation of all societies. In as much as knowledge beco-mes constitutive not merely to modern economy and its productive processes,but also to social relations generally and as the primary source of the modernsociety’s problems and conflicts, the term ‘knowledge society’ becomes appro-priate as a concept designating the nature of modern societies’ forms of life.This in turn implicates that some kind of knowledge policy is needed to sup-port reflections on what type of knowledge, society should be based on. |
