A brief description of the computerized electroencephalography technique is provided. They are described both the location (cerebral cortex) and the kind of activity (rhythmic) recorded by the electrodes. This is followed by an example of the use of these techniques to study cognitive functions and dysfunctions. Specifically, they are described two studies concerning language perception alteration, namely dyslexia. In a first study, results were not conclusive given the great disparity found between the results by different authors. Since the heterogeneity of the groups might be the reason fro this disparity, in a second study it was studied a very homogeneous sample of pure dyslexic, confirming the hypothesis that dyslexia is mainly based upon a functional alteration of the brain. |
