dc.description The purpose of the research was to determine the profile of the students of the School of Sociology from Universidad del Zulia, in the social abilities, motivation and purposes. This was a non experimental, descriptive and field study. In this sense, it was considered a sample of 135 students out of 400, who attended the first three semesters of the career, all under the age of 20, and were surveyed randomly. A questionnaire was applied, elaborated with closed questions, whose reliability was 0.91 according to the estimation of the test - retest. The results allowed the conclusion that the participants showed a positive attitude to assume and realize their assigned tasks, disposition to solve difficulties that make possible the scope of the proposed academic intentions and will to want to make and dominate the situation.<br>El propósito de la investigación fue determinar el perfil de los estudiantes de la Escuela de Sociología de la Universidad del Zulia desde el ámbito de sus habilidades sociales, motivación y metas. Para ello se realizó un estudio no experimental, descriptivo y de campo. En este sentido, se consideró una muestra de 135 estudiantes del total de 400 que cursa los primeros tres semestres de la carrera, todos menores de 20 años, quienes fueron encuestados al azar. Se aplicó un cuestionario conformado por preguntas cerradas, cuya confiabilidad fue de 0,91 de acuerdo al método test - retest. Los resultados permiten concluir que los estudiantes manifiestan actitud positiva para asumir y realizar las tareas asignadas, disposición para solucionar dificultades que posibiliten el alcance de los propósitos académicos planteados y voluntad de querer hacer y dominar la situación.
