The aim of this study is to determine the effect of small-group coaching in the course 'School Experience II', regarding student teachers' professional development. In this study, as a case study involving four student teachers, in addition to therotic courses in the Faculty a small group coaching has been carried out. In this sense, student teachers were asked to write about 'what they have done', 'which obstacles they have faced, if ever' and 'what they have learned', and this process has been controlled throughout the course. Findings showed that student teachers have developed their knowledge and skills through activities they performed, and also the coaching processes have made a contribution to their affective learnings. Regarding student teachers professional development, while they were implementing the activities, the level of students, time and physical requirements have been taken into consideration. Mentors, the ways students were evaluated and physical environments in schools have limited student teachers to overcome the problems faced during practice. For this reason, it is believed that in the Faculties lecturers should carry out small group coaching, even one-on-one coaching if necessary. |
