dc.description This study tested two propositions of the Social Cognitive Theory in an academic setting: a) Self-efficacy is a domain-specific competence belief; b) Domain-specific self-efficacy is related, but distinct from, other self-evaluation constructs. Participants (272 Spanish university students) completed measures of general self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy, statistics self-efficacy and attitudes towards statistics (cognitive and affective components). Principal Components Analyses and Confirmatory Factorial Analyses were performed, among other procedures. Taken as a whole, results support the propositions tested. Este trabajo evaluó en el ámbito educativo dos proposiciones derivadas de la Teoría Cognitiva Social: a) las creencias de autoeficacia son específicas de un ámbito de funcionamiento dado y, b) dado un ámbito específico, el constructo autoeficacia puede ser distinguido de otros constructos autorreferentes. La muestra, formada por 272 estudiantes universitarios, completó medidas de autoeficacia general, autoeficacia académica, autoeficacia estadística y actitudes hacia la Estadística (componentes cognitivo y afectivo). Se llevaron a cabo varios Análisis de Componentes Principales y Análisis Factoriales Confirmatorios, entre otros procedimientos. Tomados en conjunto, los resultados obtenidos apoyan las proposiciones de partida.
