dc.description	Se describe un proyecto de intervención comunitaria que desde 1995 se lleva a cabo en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de Cienfuegos, primera ciudad de América Latina en la red de municipios saludables. Tiene como objetivo fundamental, establecer un modo de vida saludable en estudiantes, profesores y trabajadores y combinar la promoción, prevención y curación en la educación para la salud, con la guía de médicos de la familia que conciben a la Universidad como una comunidad. Se desarrolla con la participación activa y consciente de toda la población y parte de una caracterización donde se identificaron las prioridades a los problemas. Se trabaja para crear conductas saludables en lo curricular y extracurricular, como parte de la preparación integral en la adquisición de estilos de vida saludables, que permiten interiorizar desde posiciones sentidas el papel de promotores de salud y que parten del ejemplo personal. Se mejoraron las condiciones de vida en el 80 %, se fortaleció la docencia y la vida interna del centro con el abordaje de riesgos cardiovasculares, alcoholismo, obesidad, balance dietético, hábitos nutricionales sanos, salud bucal, salud sexual y reproductiva, prevención del cáncer mamario y uterino y relación familia-escuela en el bajo rendimiento académico. Se egresan profesionales mejores preparados para la labor en las comunidades, lo que motiva la labor de la medicina familiar, lo que ubica centro como Escuela Promotora de Salud.<br>A community-wide intervention project is described, which has been implemented since 1995 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos; the first Latin American city in the network of healthy municipalities. The main objective is to establish a healthy way of life for students, professors and workers and combine promotion, prevention and healing in health education under the guidance of the family physicians who view the University as a community. This project is developed with the active and conscious participation of the whole population and is based on a characterization involving the identification of priorities of problems. The project works in favor of creating healthy behaviors at curricular and extracurricular levels, as part of a comprehensive preparation to achieve healthy life styles that make it possible for them to familiarize with the role of health promoters on the basis of their personal example. Life conditions improved by 80%, teaching and life at the Medical school campus also bettered by dealing with cardiovascular risks, alcoholism, obesity, diet balance, healthy nutritional habits, oral health, sex and reproductive health, breast and cervix cancer prevention and family-school relationship in case of low academic performance. Better professionals will graduate from university, who will be ready for the community work. This encourages the family medicine work and places the Faculty as a School that promotes health care.
