dc.description Critical thinking has been one of the most popular concepts studied in the field of education in recent years. Determining critical thinking skills of teachers and student teachers and developing these skills are essential for the provision of effective education. The aim of this study is to examine the critical thinking skills of student teachers and any possible differences that might exist among them according to some variables such as gender, program type and the type of high schools. The participants of the study were 414 student teachers studying at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education. The data were collected through the “Critical Thinking Skills Scale” (α= 0.78) developed by Ozdemir. This study, which aimed at presenting the critical thinking skills of student teachers, concluded with some suggestions made in the light of the findings obtained upon the view that critical thinking skills not only come from birth but also could be developed through education at school.
