dc.description This work starts from a trend, which was already noted in a previous study, of expanding partnerships between the public and private sector in education and aims to discuss one of the indentified modalities: the increasing in adopting private education systems in public schools and some possible relations with external assessment systems. Basing on data that are available in a database maintained by a research group called Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Políticas Educacionais – GREPPE we discuss as one of the main reasons for the growth in the adoption of private education systems the schools and municipalities search for improving the results in assessment systems and therefore the centrality of these systems in educational policies. We also point out the contradiction between the way that had been trodden in the sense of increasing autonomy and democratization of school management and the adoption of private education systems as well as their hypothetical implications for the organization of the pedagogical work in schools.
