The article analyzes the responses the Federal University of Bahiahas been giving to the problem of inequality of access to higher education in the state of Bahia since the implementationof the quota policy, with reference to the broader context of inequalities in Brazil. The article was based on the first resultsof the work performed under the Interuniversity Program Equity andSocial Cohesion sponsored by the Ibero American Politics Research andEducation-RIAIPE3, funded by the European Union. The study concludes that it is necessary to go beyond the implementation of policiesthat guarantee access to higher education for excluded groups,highlighting the need to establish policies that promoteactions aimed at cultural change to overcome the veiled discrimination that arepresent in the relationships established in within the Universityand that reflect those practiced in society as a whole. |
