dc.description	Este artigo procura mostrar as dimensões da exclusão social e sua relação com as esferas do trabalho informal e da saúde, a partir de um estudo etnográfico realizado no centro da cidade de São Paulo com “plaqueiros” e “homens-sanduíche”, trabalhadores idosos, altamente precarizados e pertencentes à “baixa informalidade” – extrato que reúne as ocupações menos qualificadas na economia informal. É nesse contexto que as transformações ocorridas nas últimas décadas no mundo do trabalho, evidenciadas através da profunda crise de empregabilidade, vão produzir impactos dramáticos na qualidade de vida e sociabilidade das pessoas. Nesse sentido, as relações entre trabalho e saúde sofrem mutações cujo principal agravante é o fato de que, no universo informal, o indivíduo será destituído de qualquer direito ou garantia trabalhista. Entre plaqueiros e homens-sanduíche, somadas às difíceis condições de vida, o tipo de trabalho praticado nas ruas vai interferir no modo de pensar e cuidar da própria saúde, produzindo uma recusa no reconhecimento do próprio sofrimento e o adiamento recorrente da busca de serviços de saúde. Isso porque o adoecimento pode significar o desemprego – risco que pode fazer o trabalhador transitar de uma condição de pobreza para miséria. <br> This article attempts to show the dimensions of social exclusion and its relationship with informal work and health, based on an ethnographic study developted in downtown São Paulo city with the “Plaque-Man” and “Sandwich-Man”. These men are very poor old workers who belong to the “low informality” which groups all kinds of little qualified job of the informal economy. Inside this context, the work market’s transformations ocurred during the past decates, showed up by a hard employment crisis, will produce dramatic impacts on people’s life quality and sociability. In this sense, the relationship between work and health suffers a distortion and the major problem is that once in the informal universe all worker’s labour rights and guarantees will be removed. Among the “Plaque-Man” and “Sandwich-Man”, in addition to poor life conditions, the kind of work performed on the streets will interfere in the way they care about their health leading them to refuse their own suffering and postpone the search for health assistence, ignoring the fact that the illness is able to stop their work and this is a risk that could make the worker pass to a wretched condition.
