dc.description Article is devoted to the description of the concept “North” in perception of inhabitants of the frontier region - Murmansk region. Barents cooperation and introduction of a visa-free regime on border with Norway allowed to carry out research about changes of the content of the concept “North” in connection with a concept border. The groups of respondents divided by an age principle, showed the common and distinctive features in perception of this cultural sign. Perception of the North by the young and the middle age and older inhabitants of the Murmansk Region coincide (wild nature, cold and permafrost and good, kind people). The analysis of questionnaires showed a difference in perception of northern territories for the people belonging to generations of a socialism, reorganizations (perestrojka) and globalizations.
