dc.description This paper intends to analyze the developmental stages of primary and secondary science education in Taiwan. It gives a brief account of why science education there was not flourished until the last decades. Because of internal and external factors, the development can be divided into 3 stages while the year of 1993 is regarded as a landmark. The emphasis of subject matter to be assessed is gradually shifted from memorizing knowledge to problem solving, multiple intelligence and pluralistic assessments. The paper also discusses the recent changes in teacher education.
