dc.description É notável que a longa história do livro didático como um recurso educacional não afetou sua validade; pelo contrário, após a primeira década do século, o seu papel nos processos pedagógicos tende a aumentar, como acontece no sistema educacional chileno. Portanto, sua relevância como um recurso educacional e as complexas dimensões que envolvem a sua presença na sala de aula fazem com que seja um fenômeno de pesquisa e de reflexão de interesse renovado. Existem várias possíveis relações estabelecidas entre este recurso e o currículo, enquanto artefato cultural e pedagógico. Vê-se, à luz deste artigo, a partir de uma perspectiva crítica, o seu papel como um dispositivo que traduz o currículo oficial, como material didático para professores e uma fonte de aprendizagem para os alunos.It is a remarkable fact that the long history of the school textbook as an educational resource hasn’t affected its validity. On the contrary, over the first decade of the XXI century, its relevance in the pedagogical processes tends to increase, as in case of the Chilean educational system. Therefore, it’s relevance as an educational resource and the complex dimensions implied by its presence in the classroom make of it a phenomenon of renewed interest for research and reflection. It is possible to establish many relationships between this resource and the curriculum, as a cultural and pedagogical artifact. It is viewed here from a critical perspective, in its roles as a device that translates the official curriculum, as a didactical material for teachers, and as a source of learning for students.
