dc.description Les corpus représentent une ressource avec de multiples possibilités pour l’apprentissage des langues, mais les résultats d’expériences avec les étudiants sont moins convaincants qu’on pourrait l’espérer. Une explication serait que les résultats quantitatifs cachent la diversité des profils d’apprenants. Cette étude décrit une expérience où des étudiants en architecture consultent soit un corpus, soit un dictionnaire pour résoudre des difficultés précises d’usage en anglais, et complètent un questionnaire sur leurs réactions aux techniques utilisées. Les résultats sont comparés aux styles d’apprentissage selon l’Index of Learning Styles, un instrument qui dépasse la simple opposition inductif-déductif traditionnellement utilisée. Si les avantages de la consultation de corpus sont liés à certains styles d’apprentissage, cela peut aider les enseignants à exploiter les corpus de façon plus efficace en cours et à adapter les procédures à différents publics.<br>Corpora offer a powerful new tool with multiple affordances for language learning, but empirical evidence is less convincing than might have been hoped. One possibility is that quantitative results conceal the diversity of learner profiles. This study summarises an earlier experiment where architecture students consulted either a dictionary or a corpus to answer specific questions of usage in English, and completed a feedback questionnaire on the tools and techniques used. These results are then analysed in relation to learning preferences as measured by the Index of Learning Styles, an instrument which goes much further than the traditional inductive–deductive dimensions. If the advantages of corpus consultation can be connected to specific learning styles, this could help teachers to use corpora more efficiently in class and adapt the procedures to different contexts.
