Description:
Aesthetics goes to school these days. But which aesthetics? That isthe question addressed in this article. For over two decades theSwedish Ministry of Education has been financing school projectsconcerning culture, aesthetics and learning. A critical study of pastactivities reveals a lack of reflective awareness of what is happeningin late modern culture. It is about time the school rethought itscultural policy and turned to radical traditions in the world of art.It has a long way to go. Along the way, I suggest some concepts asan aid to its reflective endeavour: modest, market and radical aes-thetics as analytical tools for three types of social aesthetics.
