Se realiza un breve recuento del origen de la Universidad de La Habana. Se expone la evolución de la enseñanza de la Anatomía desde sus inicios, así como la introducción de los contenidos microscópicos en los diferentes planes de estudio, hasta la aparición de la Histología como asignatura en la carrera de Medicina y su posterior evolución hasta 1960. Se mencionan las personalidades más sobresalientes en la enseñanza de la Histología en los diferentes años y las principales características de la enseñanza de dicha asignatura.<br>This paper presents a brief account of the origins of the University of Havana. It sets forth the development of Anatomy teaching from the very beginning as well as the introduction of the microscopic contents into the different curricula up to the emergence of Histology as a subject in the Medical studies and its development until 1960. It also mentions the most outstanding figures in the teaching of histology at different years and the main characteristics of the teaching of this subject.
