Description:
Private life and compulsory school. A discourse ethical discussionon schools’ handling of private issues in a pluralistic, marketizisedsociety. What kind of questions, expressions and needs should be handled within the public sphere of compulsory school? Questions of individual right, integrity and common good are often discussed within discourse ethics. Therefore, I also find this theory fruitful for questions on schools’ handling of issues that can be considered as private. During the 1990s, Swedish compulsory school has gone through a change towards market orientation. This has effects on how teachers relate to their students, and how they reflect on their own and their pupils’ private spheres. Changes in these areas need to be explored and further discussed. It is my aim to do so, with guidance from the principles of discourse ethics.
