O claustro de um mosteiro beneditino é um de seus lugares mais privilegiados e característicos. No entanto, a palavra que designa este território, por excelência, dos monges não teve sempre o mesmo significado, assim como aquele espaço não conheceu sempre as mesmas utilizações. É nosso objetivo estudarmos aqui o claustro no contexto do Ocidente medieval, atentando para a gênese do termo e as relações deste espaço com o lugar por ele ocupado no imaginário religioso da época e no quotidiano dos monges beneditinos.<br><br>The cloister of a Benedictine monastery is one of its most privileged and typical places. However, the word for this place did not always have the same meaning, and that space has not always met the same uses. It is our goal here to study the cloister in the context of the medieval West, paying attention to the genesis of the term and the relations this place holds in the religious imaginary of that time and the daily lives of Benedictine monks.
