In this article the major native and Western concepts of demographic processes are discussed. It focuses on the economic factor influencing the demographic processes in modern society. In the article the author made hierarchization of terms "demography", "demographics", demographic development, "as well as the analysis of approaches to explaining the processes of fertility, mortality, specific reproductive function of the family, cleared up the impact of population growth on the level of economic development. These processes are analyzed from the point of view of macro-economic and micro-economic options, socio-psychological and urban approaches. While analysing of modern society the author installs the contradictory dependency of motivation reproductive behavior of various strata of the urban population from the economic factor. Considered theoretical concepts of investigating of demographic processes may be applicable in the study of scientific and demographic problems of Russian society today.
