This paper presents the results of a research where the phenomenon of indiscipline was problematized approaching its possible relationship with the production of gender identities, in and through school. By means of interviews and direct observation, in classes of the 8th grade of a school was carried out a study about the (male and female) teachers? attitudes towards what they consider their pupils? indiscipline (which are teenagers, about 13 / 14 years old). At the same time it was made an analysis about the practices of school punishment, threreby a listing of the punishments imposed to "desobedient" students? behavior. This listing came out from consultation to the " book of disciplinary records of the students". So it was possible to bring about, among others, some important aspects of this process: a) the coherence (or incoherence) between what teachers consider "indiscipline" and their actual practices and attitudes towards students? behavior; b) The diferences and analogies among (male and female) teachers?practices and attitudes c) The different ways in which teachers deal with the manifestations of gender and sexuality of the (male and female) students, at the same time associate them to the practices of insubordination and indiscipline; d) the production of identities, distinctions and inequalities of gender and sexuality, thru school practices. Este artigo apresenta os resultados da pesquisa em que o fenômeno da indisciplina foi problematizado, a partir de suas possíveis inter-relações com a produção de identidades de gênero, na e pela escola. Através de entrevistas e de observações diretas, em aulas de três oitavas séries de uma determinada escola, realizou-se um estudo das atitudes de professore(a)s diante do que consideram indisciplina de seus /suas aluno(a)s, que são adolescentes, entre 13 e 14 anos de idade. Ao mesmo tempo, procedeu-se a uma análise das práticas de punição escolares, através do levantamento das punições aos comportamentos de aluno(a)s, considerados “desobedientes” , por intermédio da consulta ao “Livro de registro de ocorrências disciplinares do corpo discente”. Dessa forma, foi possível discutir, entre outros, alguns importantes aspectos desse processo: a) a coerência, ou não, entre aquilo que o(a)s professore(a)s declaram conceber como “indisciplina” e as suas práticas e atitudes efetivas, diante do comportamento do(a)s aluno(a)s, b) as diferenças e semelhanças entre as práticas e atitudes de professores e de professoras, c) as formas distintas com que os docentes tratam das manifestações de gênero e de sexualidade dos alunos e das alunas, ao mesmo tempo em que as associam a práticas de insubordinação e indisciplina, d) a produção de identidades, de distinções e desigualdades de gênero e sexualidade, através de práticas escolares.
