One of the features social and humanitarian knowledge is an impossibility formation of definitions, recognized by all researchers. This creates a considerable number of interpretations one and the same notion. The category labor potential is not an exception as a product of humanitarian knowledge. Different authors have proposed approaches to the interpretation of the concept trying to systematize the existing definitions. I.S. Maslova made the first attempt to systematize the definitions. Other authors worked in this trend hereinafter. Such a variety of definitions and existing approaches to the category under consideration has led to the need an identifying the most common trends in the interpretation. This was the research purpose. To achieve the objectives of the study tradional analysis was implemented previously for the selection of the maximum possible quantity of materials as well as the semantic analysis variants of definitions. Content-analysis was conducted for definitions with using developed system of categories and units of analysis on second step. As a result of the research category definition was formulated shared by the majority of authors.
