Purpose Materials of the paper purpose the aim to attract attention to didactic and educational possibilities of public speech and the possibility for its use in educational process at the institutions of higher education. Methodology Analysis of the works by the classics of pedagogical science and the study of opinions of the students of the institutions of higher education revealed during the social and pedagogical study Results It is revealed that a public speech, i.e. a speech on the specified subject, which is of undoubted social interest and prepared as a study task, allows to actualize the whole complex of knowledge, arouse the interest in the educational subject, contribute to the development of communicative culture, is a good mean to develop leader's qualities in students of the institution of higher education. Practical implications Training of the ability to appear with a public speech should become a necessary component of the training of present-day specialists, especially in the filed of management and administrative activity.
