The aim of this article is to explain why an engineering school can be regarded as a system, and to show that interactions exist between all the parts making up this system, for instance between the mission of the engineering school and the content and layout of computerised learning resources designed for the engineering students following an English credit course. Then it appears that by adopting a systemic approach of pedagogical issues and entering the paradigm of complex thought researchers find an epistemologically sound way of dealing with all the parameters and variables of SLL. As for practitioners they find an operational decision-making process which may help them in the numerous choices they have to face in their daily practice.
