dc.description Cet article s’appuie sur un travail d’enquête mené auprès des étudiants du Centre International des Langues de l’Université de Nantes. Les résultats de cette enquête montrent qu’il est difficile de faire évoluer les dispositifs institutionnels si un véritable travail de recherche didactique n’est pas conduit par une équipe de chercheurs motivés. Tout projet de modification de dispositif doit donc s’appuyer sur les données théoriques, les représentations des uns et des autres relevées par enquêtes qualitatives et questionnaires et par des observations directes. Cette triangulation est indispensable pour assurer la validité scientifique des décisions prises dans en didactique des langues. La problématique fait intervenir non seulement la didactique, mais aussi la sociologie de l’éducation, la psychosociologie et l’économie de l’éducation pour nous aider à comprendre les phénomènes qui jouent sur les comportements et les réactions des différents acteurs et les ajustements nécessaires par rapport aux réalités socio-économiques et aux problèmes de financement.<br>This paper is based on a recent investigation carried out within a foreign language learning environment in the Applied Languages Section at the University of Nantes. The results show the necessity for developing research which not only takes into account the particularity of this section in French Universities, but also includes socio-cultural aspects and investigates contents and systems. Innovation will only be possible though if conducted by a team of motivated teachers and accompanied by action-research. Before a system is changed, teachers’ and learners’ socio-cultural representations about language teaching and learning must be taken into account and data must be collected through qualitative and quantitative research and ethnographic observation previous to being compared to what the theory tells us. Such triangulation is necessary to ensure the scientific validity of decision-making in such contexts. In order to understand the various parameters that influence the behaviour of the different stakeholders, as well as the financial and socio-economic realities influencing change management, knowledge from the fields of sociology, psycho-sociology and economics applied to education are needed alongside knowledge arising from research in didactics.
