dc.description Prendre des notes en écoutant un message oral constitue une compétence cruciale pour des étudiants amenés à suivre des conférences en langue étrangère ou à effectuer nombre de tâches professionnelles. C’est aussi une compétence complexe car la prise de notes d’un message en L2 allie divers processus cognitifs (écouter, écrire, traiter de l’information) qui font appel à la mémoire de travail. L’hypothèse centrale de cet article est que le brouillon de prise de notes est un instrument qui permet de délester la mémoire de travail en stockant les éléments de sens les plus saillants sur le brouillon pour faire face en temps réel au flot de l’information. La méthodologie adoptée met en miroir les notes prises pendant l’écoute et les productions finalisées et elle permet de mettre à jour les stratégies utilisées par chaque apprenant et, partant, de révéler une partie des processus de compréhension de l’oral.<br>The ability to take notes from an oral message is very important for students who might have to follow lectures in a foreign language or carry out professional tasks. This skill is complex since it combines simultaneous cognitive processes (listening, writing, processing information) which rely on working memory. The central hypothesis of this article is that note-taking is an instrument whereby the listener deals with the flow of real-time information and relieves working memory overload by stocking the most salient elements of meaning in note form. Our methodology, which compares students’ notes to their final productions, elucidates students’ individual strategies as well as some of the processes linked to listening comprehension.
