OBJETIVO: describir los antecedentes y necesidades que dieron origen al perfil de Gestión de Información en Salud en la carrera de Licenciatura en Tecnología de la Salud de la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud de Ciudad de La Habana durante el curso escolar 2006-2007, así como analizar mediante un grupo de indicadores, los resultados alcanzados por sus estudiantes. MÉTODOS: se explicaron los aspectos que sustentan la formación de los tecnólogos de este perfil, se describieron los antecedentes y necesidades que dieron origen al perfil y se analizó además, mediante un grupo de indicadores, los resultados alcanzados por los estudiantes durante el curso escolar 2006-2007. RESULTADOS: los principales resultados demuestran que el diseño de las competencias profesionales del futuro egresado permite resolver las necesidades de las especialidades que lo integran. CONCLUSIONES: fue satisfactorio el comportamiento de indicadores como promoción y retención, la participación de los estudiantes en las diferentes actividades extracurriculares de su formación (política, cultural y deportiva) fue positiva.<br>AIM: to describe the background and needs that gave rise to the Health Information Management profile in the career of Health Technology Baccalaureate at the Health Technology Faculty of Havana City during the academic course 2006-2007, and to analyze by a group of indicators the results obtained by the students. METHODS: the aspects supporting the training of technologists of this profile were explained, the background and needs that gave rise to it were described, and the results attained by the students during the academic course 2006-2007 were analyzed by a set of indicators. RESULTS: the main results showed that the design of the professional competences of the future graduate allows solving the needs of the specialties included. CONCLUSIONS: the behavior of indicators such as promotion and retention was satisfactory. The participation of the students in different extracurricular activities of their training (political, cultural, and sports) was positive.
