Description:
In 2003-2004 teaching year the parents of 180 students in 6 primary schools in the city center of Aydın were asked to report the sport branches they prefer their children to take up. Parents’ professions and educational backgrounds were taken as independent variables and chi-square analysis was done to determine whether the independent variables had an effect on the parents’ choice of sports branches for their children. As a result, it is found out that social characteristics such as having different professions and educational backgrounds cause a significant difference in parents’ preferences of sports branches (p<.05).
