Can FASP (fiction à substrat professionnel/profession-based fiction) provide ways of accessing the languages and cultures of learners’ specializations, as well as provide basic “nutrition” for language acquisition? The “nutritional” needs of learners in a general academic language course differ from those in Language for Specific Purposes courses. While certain underlying “nutritional” needs are similar, special diets might be required for more narrowly defined needs. Thus, the types of reading will differ. Suggestions are given for selecting and developing the most appropriate “meals” for our learners. Also, two examples of readings are used: short stories of medical detection and excerpts from a journal of scientific satire.<br>Dans cet article, nous nous demandons si la FASP (fiction à substrat professionnel) offre un accès aux langues et cultures disciplinaires de nos apprenants tout en leur fournissant les « apports nutritionnels » linguistiques de base. Les besoins « nutritionnels » des apprenants inscrits dans les cours de langue « générale » diffèrent de ceux des apprenants en langue de spécialité. Certes, certains de ces besoins « nutritionnels » sont communs aux deux types de cours, mais il est nécessaire de créer des régimes personnalisés pour répondre aux besoins spécifiques. En conséquence, les supports de lecture utilisés seront différents. Nous émettrons des suggestions sur la manière de choisir et de préparer les « repas » les mieux appropriés pour nos apprenants et présenterons deux types de supports de lecture : des nouvelles policières médicales et des extraits d’une revue scientifique à caractère satirique. |
