Description:
The Lorentz length contraction for a rod in uniform motion is derived performing two measurements at arbitrary times. This alternative derivation, in contrast with the one found in most textbooks, does not invoke the simultaneousmeasurement of two events. It thus avoids uncomfortable superluminal relationships. An example of a spacecontraction measurement from the same rest position in the observer frame illustrates the procedure.
