In this short paper I present some issues and questions related to the racial problem in thecontext of teacher education and articulate an understanding of the implications of black studentsidentities within universities. In the process of teacher formation, the affirmative identity means theability to perceive the tensions and dilemmas of identity construction. It also means looking for newelements to understand the construction of a new political culture of confrontation of racialinequalities in Brazil.
