<p>During a recent seminar on critical thinking at the University of Massachusetts/Boston, I described a workshop I had developed for faculty in a community college dental hygiene program. Later that same evening one of the seminar participants asked me, " ... couldn't one assume that by the time a student reaches the college level -- specifically a dental hygiene program -- there would not be a need to teach critical thinking?" Having worked with dental hygiene students for five years, I knew that this assumption could not be made.</p>
