Em 1259, o Capítulo Geral da Ordem dos Pregadores registra, em sua ata, o que se convencionou chamar de ratio studiorum, uma série de determinações que visavam organizar e regulamentar a prática do estudo entre os frades dominicanos. Inseridos nos grandes centros universitários desde sua fundação, em 1216, os seguidores de Domingos vinham regularmente associando-se às corporações de estudantes e mestres como uma forma de garantir o que consideravam ser sua missão: a cura animarum. A salvação dos cristãos dar-se-ia, principalmente, por meio da pregação baseada no conhecimento apropriado das Escrituras. A ação dos Pregadores suscitava críticas e resistência por parte de outras instâncias eclesiásticas, principalmente entre os clérigos que freqüentavam as universidades, que viam os frades como concorrentes em suas funções pastorais. A própria Ordem também enfrentava discordâncias internas no que se referia ao papel do estudo entre os religiosos. Este artigo pretende demonstrar que o ratio studiorum apresentou-se como um instrumento para fortalecer a identidade dominicana, atrelando-a fortemente à prática do estudo, o que serviria a um só tempo para legitimar sua posição junto à Cúria papal e aos fiéis, e dar-lhe coesão interna.<br><br>In 1259, the General Chapter of the Order of Preachers records in its minutes, what is conventionally called ratio studiorum, a series of determinations that were intended to organize and regulate the practice of the study among the Dominican friars. Inserted in major universities since its founding in 1216, followers of Dominic associated regularly with the corporations of students and teachers as a way to guarantee that they considered their mission: the cura animarum. The salvation of christians was possible especially through the preaching based on proper knowledge of the Scriptures. The action of the Preachers provoked criticism and resistance from other ecclesiastical, especially among the clergy who attended the universities, which saw the friars as competitors in their pastoral duties. The Order itself was also facing internal disagreements in what was referred to the role of study among the religious. This article will argue that the ratio studiorum presented itself as an instrument for strengthening the Dominican identity, tying it closely to the practice of study, which would at the same time legitimize their position with the papal Curia and the faithful, and give it internal cohesion.
